Penny Lane of Woodland Wonders

Penny, owner of Woodland Wonders, says this about herself and her work:

"I have a life-long love of nature starting with the creek my sister and I used to play on when I was a child. We often speak of those times, how exciting they were, just catching crayfish and letting them go, things like that. I taught children at a nature center in Illinois where I grew up. One day I found my craft while walking in the woods, so it is an extension of my love."

"I make natural jewelry from fungi which grows on trees, helping with the process of decomposition and soil-making. They become stable when you pick them and will last almost forever once they are dried. I have to find really good fresh ones as they are the sturdiest, most leathery. Most are colored with permanent inks, others I leave their own natural beauty."

You can find Penny on the Roanoke Farmer's Market most Saturdays from March through December as long as weather permits.
