Art Museum of Western Virginia

The Art Museum of Western Virginia exhibits, collects, preserves, and interprets significant works of art form cultures throughout the world with a special emphasis on American art and the artistic expressions of this region. Serving the diverse population of western Virginia and surrounding areas, we are committed to providingexcellence in scholarship and creative, artistic activities that encourage self-awareness and enhance meaningful interaction among all in our community.

Additionally, the Art Museum of Western Virginia's Education Department will provide high quality, interdisciplinary, and interactive learning opportunities to encourage critical thinking, the development of observation skills, and life long learning among all age groups in order to facilitate self-actualization, stewardship and in-depth discovery.

Currently the Art Museum of Western Virginia is located at One Market Square inside of the Center in the Square building on the second floor. A new building is currently under construction for the Art Museum, and is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2008. It will be located on Salem Avenue, between Market Street and Williamson Road. They are open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 5pm and on Sunday from 1pm to 5pm.
