Virginia Museum of Transportation, Inc.

Our Mission is to preserve and interpret the transportation heritage of the Commonwealth by collecting, restoring and exhibiting significant artifacts in the order to serve and educate the citizens of Virginia.

We have a large collection of diesel and steam locomotives, cabooses and other rolling stock. Most notably, we are home to the N&W Class J No. 611 & the N&W Class A No.1218. These magnificent steam locomotives were designed, built and run in Roanoke by the N&W and are the only ones of their kind in the world.

Additionally, we have just opened the doors to an automobile and road travel exhibit From Mud to Mobility: 100 Years of Roads in Virginia.

The Virginia Museum of Transportation is located at 303 Norfolk Ave., Roanoke VA 24016 - about 4 blocks from the Roanoke City Market down the railwalk.
