Mark & James Woods of Wood Farms

Mark and James Woods are from Boones Mill, and are well known on the historic Farmer's Market in downtown Roanoke. Mark, a fourth generation farmer, can be found Monday through Friday from St. Patrick's Day to the weekend before Christmas. Mark's father and grandmother started selling on the Roanoke Farmer's Market in the early 1900s. They began with produce, then moved to chickens and produce, and then eventually moved on to greenhouse raised plants and produce. Today, Woods Farms offers greenhouse plants, fruits, produce, and Christmas material like wreaths and trees in season. A lot has changed downtown since Mark's grandmother bought her first Coke and B.C. Powder in 1918 from Turner's Drugstore at age fourteen. Turner's Drugstore is now the Gift Niche, and while Mark's grandmother is no longer with them, the tradition she started continues through her son and grandson. Mark, who many know from his constant presence and eager smile, enjoys college sports and spending itme with his daughter, Olivia, when not working on the farm.
