Janet Walter of Walter's Greenhouse

Walter's Greenhouse is owned by Raymond and Rosalin Walter originally of Ontario, Canada. A family business, Walter's Greenhouse was established in an effort to put Rosalin's two daughters through college. Twenty-one years later, and both daughters - Evelyn and Janet - not only have degrees from Virginia Tech, but they now also work at the greenhouses with their mother. Walter's Greenhouse grows everything that they sell. They currently own nine greenhouses as well as a perinnial area that houses their annuals, perinnials and herbs. Located in Hardy, VA, the greenhouses are open to the public Monday through Saturday from 9am - 6pm and on Sundays from 1pm to 5pm. They offer an extensive selection of plants in their greenhouses which are located 8 miles, or about a 15 minute drive from downtown Roanoke. Walter's Greenhouse takes great pride in knowing all there is to know about their plants, and they are all locally grown for optimum performance in this area. Rosalin and Evelyn both work at the greenhouses 7 days a week, while Jan (pictured above), who holds a degree in horticulture, is available at the Roanoke Farmer's Market (beside the Center in the Square) six days a week in season. You can find Walter's Greenhouse on the Roanoke Farmer's Market selling plants during the month of March on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays and in April through June six days a week on Mondays through Saturdays. In December, Walter's Greenhouse offers wreaths and centerpieces on the Market on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
