If you've ever been to the Roanoke Market, then you've seen Sam's. Sam's on the Market has been in the same location for the past 85 years and is a staple on Market St. They sell public safety uniforms for police, fire, and rescue as well as work clothes and boots - "real" clothes that are made to hold up despite what you put them through. They also offer embroidery services and free alterations.
Currently owned by Tom Anderton, Tom has been on the market since 1979 and is only the second owner since Sam's first opened it's doors in 1922. Tom, when not in his store, can often be found somewhere along Market St. chatting with the other area's business owners and always with a smile on his face. He has been married for 34 years, and has one daughter. Additionally, Tom has teamed up with Wertz Restaurant owner, Gary Crowder, in restoring two downtown market buildings as well as constructing the first new building in over 75 years on the market.
Located at 304 Market Street in downtown Roanoke, Sam's is open Monday through Saturday from 8:30am to 5pm. You can contact the store by calling (540) 342 - 7300 or by email at tommy@samsmarket.com.
